“The sense of community in Rappahannock is amazing!” said Relay for Life community manager Christina Ballard, after Saturday’s annual Rappahannock Relay for Life celebration at Rappahannock Elementary — for which 10 local teams exceeded their $35,000 goal and raised $40,360.94. Top individual fundraisers were Phyllis Grogg ($2,840.30), Carolyn Williams ($2,503.20) and Carolyn Leake ($2,480). Here, Jane Johnson, years ago one of Rapp’s first ACS Relay for Life reps, reminisces about her close friend Ester Settle and how the Relay first made its way to Rappahannock.
