April Moore, the Democrat who’s running against state Sen. Mark Obenshain in Virginia’s 26th District, which includes Rappahannock, speaks to supporters on the deck at Gadino Cellars last Sunday in Washington. The Rappahannock Democrats organized the gathering as a spring fundraiser. Moore’s Republican incumbent opponent, viewed by some as one of the top contenders for the 2017 Republican gubernatorial nomination, has raised $319,334 from 2012 to 2015, a figure that incluedes many five-figure corporate and PAC donations, according to the Virginia Public Access Project. Moore has raised $5,995, all of it from individuals. One of Moore’s fundamental views is that big money has too much influence on politics.
