Rappahannock County High School’s chapter of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is promoting awareness this week with Red Ribbon Week at the school — and, with the cooperation of the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), across the county. The SADD club recently completed a poster and slogan contest for students to further its mission of empowering young people to successfully confront the risks and pressures that challenge them in their daily lives. With help from a grant from Virginia Department of Alcohol and Beverage Controls (ABC), the contest produced five awards each for posters and slogans. Elementary school student Cassia Gainer, shown here with her mother Beth Gainer, and her prize (a laptop), created the winning slogan —  “Bad decisions today, no decisions tomorrow” —and high school student Macy Montgomery created the winning poster entry, using a crossroads theme to illustrate the choices faced by students.
