Letter: Great greens gratitude

Every year since 1954, members of the Rappahannock Garden Club have expressed their thanks to the whole community for their successful sale of wreaths, garland, centerpieces, swags and other assorted Christmas greenery that, while beautifying homes and businesses and spreading holiday cheer near and far, also funds the annual scholarships they give to Rappahannock County High School seniors for college, as well as to younger students for attendance at nature camps, both in the county and beyond.

This year is no exception — as usual, generous citizens allow us to cut their trees and bushes for our supplies of pine, box, nandina berries, cedar, yew and other evergreens. Others of our members work over the year designing centerpieces, making bows and planning for the four-day task of making products for sale; other volunteers are called in to set up the space in the Washington fire hall (no small task), so that the work can be done. Thanks to all who participated, especially our customers, old and new, who not only buy the mixed green wreaths and many feet of garland, but make us very happy when they exclaim over their beauty.

Members of the Rappahannock County Garden Club send their wholehearted thanks to our community. As usual, your support will benefit our students, both now and in the future.
