Sperryville column for Sept. 1

Laura meets LuLa

Laura McNear Morey, born and raised in Rappahannock, lives in Sperryville with her husband Duane and their four beautiful children, including a set of rambunctious triplets. She is a busy woman for sure, and enjoys a full-time job, too, so starting up Laura’s LuLaRoe Boutique recently is . . . well, Wonder Woman-esque.

The clothing line is lovely, and suited for all shapes, sizes and ages. As you will find on LuLaRoe’s website, the company ethos is to celebrate comfortable, affordable, stylish clothing, as well as to offer its consultants, such as Laura, the independence to set their own pace and schedule.

That being the case, Laura says her hours will be flexible and mostly on weekends, and she will post future events on her Facebook page and the Facebook Rappnet group page. A smiling Laura will greet you warmly at the entrance, and the shopping experience is found in a high-ceilinged, spacious room filled with colorful clothing, dressing rooms and a kitchen chock full of assorted cheeses and crackers, champagne and wine.

Women laughed and chatted while I was there, friends and strangers alike, talked of families and kids, social events, shopped with glass in hand and purchased, and purchased (myself included). She calls her shopping soirees “open houses” and can also entertain pop-up boutiques, a la Mary Kay or Pampered Chef. And Laura is more than happy to come to your home for a pop-up party as well.

“The cool thing is that there is no presentation to sit through and no catalogs,” she says. “And I have all the inventory so you can try things on and then take them home!”

Good luck to you, Laura, in your new venture. I know I’ve already received numerous compliments on the lovely clothing I purchased. Thanks! Laura’s place is at 12213 Lee Hwy. in Sperryville; for future hours check Facebook or email lemorey@yahoo.com.
