Congressional approval

Above: Outgoing Rep. Robert Hurt (R-5th) was in the county last Thursday to recognize a few Rappahannock folks, including Amissville resident and World War II veteran Chilton “Chilly” Raiford, a decorated Navy vet who survived a devastating attack by a Japanese kamikaze pilot while serving aboard the USS Randolph. Hurt presented Raiford with a flag flown over the Capitol. Below: Hurt then made a stop at the Rappahannock Library, where he presented library director David Shaffer with a certificate of appreciation for hosting the congressman’s local office hours since 2011; also on hand for the presentation were county supervisors (from left) Chris Parrish, Roger Welch and Ron Frazier.
