Boston column for Nov. 10

There’s an all-you-can-eat Spaghetti Benefit Dinner at Salem Fire Department this Saturday (Nov. 12) from 5 to 8 p.m. There’s music by the Naked Mountain Boys bluegrass band at this benefit for the Hooper family, who are from Boston and lost almost everything they owned in a house fire last month. To make a donation, items or money, or for more information, contacting Courtney King at 540-522-1584.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, I would like to say thank you to all of those whom have served. I am thankful for all that you all have done for our country. Our older vets are few and far between, so  I would like to take this time to thank some of our living veterans of the wars in Korea and Vietnam, Otis Deal Jr., John Harry, Joe Stanley, Larry Stanley and Junior Jenkins. There are two very special men I would also like to thank for their service. My DDaddy, David Yowell Sr., who served in Korea in the Marines, and my great Uncle Thomas “Tom” O’Halloran, who served in the Air Force in Vietnam. Please take the time to thank a veteran; a simple thank you and a smile can brighten a day.

A belated happy birthday to our very own children’s librarian at Rappahannock County Public Library, Amanda Weakley, and to Deputy Cody Dodson. And Nov. 13 is a very special day to me as well — it is my daughter’s birthday. Happy 11th birthday, VenissaLyn! Your mommy loves you very much and wishes you a wonderful day.
