A winning Christmas Parade

It was cloudy and brisk, but dry — and the town filled up fast for the 12th annual Christmas in Little Washington parade and pedestrian festival on Sunday.

Stars included the award-winning RCHS Marching Band and U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps; George Washington himself (on the white horse he apparently borrowed from Forrest Whorton of Castleton); grand marshall Mimi Forbes (in the flashy red Corvette convertible) and many more.

Parade winners chosen by the judges Thom Pellikaan, Lois Snead and Tuck Grinnell were: Best Float — St. Peter’s and Knights of Columbus Council 14755; Best Horse Entry — The Hair Gallery/Renaissance Riders; Best Classic Car — (tie) Sue and Joe Claffy Classic Car and Masonic Lodge Classic Car (George Glavis);

Best Costume — Julia Groetsch and Stephen Richards (appearing on the Little Washington Wellness & Spa float); Best Music Entry — RCHS Marching Band. Special Recognition to the 4-H Mini Whinnies and Bitty Brayers.

“And a grateful thank you to all parade participants and supporters of the Rappahannock Food Pantry,” said Pellikaan.
