The Rappahannock Lions Club morning shift — as in 4 a.m. — consisting of (left to right) Scott Wells, Dave Hilty, Jim Blubaugh, Richard Antony and Larry Grove, stir up the club’s world famous apple butter.

There is no surer sign of fall’s arrival in the Blue Ridge Mountains than seeing the Lions spreading the fresh dark butter from one end of the county to the other. Besides apple butter, when visiting the Lions’ sales trailer on weekends this fall you can also pick up Virginia peanuts and good old-fashioned brooms. Proceeds benefit Rappahannock County causes throughout the year.
